Psalm 91

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.

He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,

Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.

Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place,

No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.

In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

The secret place of the Most High.  When I first started to write this I was going to try to sound all clever and talk about how it’s the glory of kings to seek out a matter, and the glory of God to conceal a matter, but it just made me sound a little too full of myself.  In Matthew 6:6 Jesus tells you everything you need to know about how to get to this “secret place”.  He says, “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”  The secret place is your personal place of one on one intimate prayer with God.  Where you spend equal amounts of time talking and listening.  Where you thank your Abba for what He has done, is doing (whether you see it or not), and will continue to do for you.   Where you open up the raging tempests of fears and anxieties and let Him say “peace, be still”.  Where you bring your pains and injuries of body, soul, and spirit to the Great Physician for a proper wound dressing and application of the healing Balm of Gilead.  Where you don’t just pray for yourself, but also intercede and fight for those who may not know how to fight for themselves, or maybe they are in a position of leadership and even if they do know how to fight in the spirit, their role as a leader makes them such a high value target that there aren’t enough hours in the day for one person’s prayers to cover it.

Bottom line, if you want all the shinies promised in this psalm, and you would be a fool not to, the only way it comes is through time spent in personal intimate prayer with your Heavenly Abba.
