Psalm 95

Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.

For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods.

In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the heights of the hills are His also.

The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.

For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice:

“Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, as in the day of trial in the wilderness,

When your fathers tested Me; they tried Me, though they saw My work.

For forty years I was grieved with that generation, and said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, and they do not know My ways.’

So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ “

At first I was going to write about verses eight through eleven, but they are already covered quite well in the book of Hebrews. With that in mind the first seven verses, have an even greater importance. Cheer up! You belong to the Good Shepherd. He will lead you where you need to go. All you have to do is obey and enjoy the journey. Not every part of the journey will be easy, but the end is secure. The only real challenge is to learn to truly put all of your trust in God. Maybe you say, “I trust God, but it’s just myself that I have doubts in. How do I know I haven’t missed a key instruction? What if I mess up?” The answer is so easy we often miss it because we want it to be harder. Spend time in God’s presence, learn to listen and recognize His voice every day. When was the last time you mistook your earthly father’s voice for someone else, or you mother’s voice, or your spouse’s, or you kid’s voice? You can probably pick their voice out of a crowded room with relative ease. You can do this because of the time you’ve spent with them. Spend time with your Heavenly Father daily, and trust that He is powerful enough and wise enough to overcome even your shortcomings. Anchor your life in His rock and you need fear no storm.
